The proof of the hypothesis of Warm and Cold properties of Iranian traditional medicine in cell culture

Abstract:
Aim: The healing or medicinal plants are more than just the latest trend in the alternative medicine field.Therapeutical properties of medicinal plants are very useful in healing various diseases and one of their advantages is being 100% natural. Iranian traditional medicine has used these kinds of plants to neutralize the body metabolism, for the people with Warm and Cold tempered (nature). So different nutrients and specially healing plants are categorized to warm and cold nature. Does it affect the body by hormone system or the extract may influence the cells directly? In this study abstract we have simply used these kinds of plants to see if they could affect the growth rate of Vero cells in culture.
Method: In this study the healing plants were used variously in different cultures: "tincture, ointment, oils and tea;" In our country, Iran, we distillate the plants and the resulted colorless liquid, the arak, are used in different ways to help the body against disease. Vero cells in control group were treated with DMEM medium (distilled water was used as solvent for the related powder). In the test groups 1-4 the medium were prepared as follows: the araks distillated from Taroune (The Sheath of Date blossom), oxyacantha Crataegus, Carum copticume and Anethum graveolens dhi were used as the solvent, instead of distilled water, respectively. The medium were then filtered and added to Vero cells in 96 wells plates. MTT Assay was carried out for 3 days and the growth rates of each well were compared to control.
Results and Conclusion: According to the results both oxyacantha Crataegus and Anethum graveolens dhi suppressed cell growth significantly, while Taroune and Carum copticume increased cell growth rate when compared to control. So, different araks have different effects on Vero cell growth which are match with the current believe about their properties as warm and cold tempered
